Our Story of Higher Standards & Family Values

In 1987, Dr. Jonathan Wald started Central Broward Animal Hospital as a clinic founded on high-quality medicine and caring family values. This model is still the one guiding us today. Our story is one of passion for veterinary medicine, a love for all animals, and compassion for their parents.

Dr. Wald conceived a two-part dream back in childhood. He wished to open up a leading animal hospital to serve the pet-loving community of the Ft. Lauderdale area, and to create an independent rescue to save and rehabilitate sick or injured homeless animals that would otherwise be euthanized due to their medical issues.

Beginnings

In 1987, part one of Dr. Wald’s dream became reality when he opened Central Broward Animal Hospital in Plantation, Florida, starting with just three staff members. His focus was two-fold: treating everyone like family, and providing the finest quality care for both the pet and pet owner. The hospital was an immediate success. It became a place where everyone was welcome. They felt at home, knowing they would be receiving the most honest, professional, and compassionate care possible.

Choosing Plantation was easy for Dr. Wald, as it’s located in central Broward County, near the Fort Lauderdale community where he first began practicing veterinary medicine. Plus, it’s also located near Sunrise, Davie, and Weston, where many of his patient families resided. Before he opened Central Broward Animal Hospital, many of his Ft. Lauderdale clients repeatedly asked that he open his own practice near them. Encouraged by their support, Dr. Wald pursued his dream.

Growing Our Practice

Fast forward to today, over 30 years later, Central Broward Animal Hospital’s culture is not much different from its humble beginnings, although it is now located in a modern facility personally designed by Dr. Wald for the comfort of both pets and owners. Delivering the same honest, high-quality medicine and having many of his staff members with him for 18 years and more have all contributed to them winning many animal hospital awards, and being considered the leading veterinary hospital in Broward County. The staff is proud to say that maintaining the highest quality medical care over all these years has resulted in patients who travel from as far south as Miami-Dade County and as far north as Palm Beach County.
