Jonathan Wald, DVM
Founder and Owner Since 1987
When Dr. Jonathan Wald was five years old, his father brought him home a rescue puppy named “Cha-Cha” to help care for. His love of caring for “Cha-Cha” sparked a passion within him to become a veterinarian and there was no looking back. As Dr. Wald grew older, he began recognizing the miraculous joy and important bond that pets provide for people. His dream was to open an animal hospital with a decidedly distinct rule of thumb to provide the finest quality, compassion-driven care, while helping nurture the “Human-Animal Bond.” Dr. Wald wanted people to come knowing that their important family member would receive the best care available to keep them healthy. In 1987, his dream become a reality with the opening of Central Broward Animal Hospital in Plantation, Florida.
Today, after decades in practice, Dr. Wald’s pure joy and devotion to animal care and quality-driven veterinary medicine is as impassioned as when he began. He loves coming to work to spend time with the patients he cares for – so much so, that you can find him several times a day taking time just to walk through the hospital and say “hello” to all the animals who are there as patients, boarders or just for a spa bath. He also cherishes spending time with his staff, whom have truly become part of his family, thus nurturing the family-centered practice culture which translates to warmer, personalized, and superior care for the clients and patients.
Additionally, Dr. Wald completed a long-time goal by debuting Aska Animal Welfare Foundation, a non-profit organization that saves homeless strays, most of whom were destined for euthanasia due to extensive and costly medical issues.
Dr. Wald’s family supports and shares his enthusiasm for animals. His wife Melissa and daughters Lindsay and Danielle, when not away at their university, can often be found helping out at the hospital. No surprise, the Wald family members include Shea and Chase, two Golden Retrievers that enthusiastically accompany Dr. Wald to work and Scott, an irresistible Chihuahua rescue. The Walds are also avid equine lovers and enjoy riding their two Quarter Horses, Beau and Teddy. And of course, Tortuga, their beloved rescue turtle, has grown so large that he is now contentedly living in a large tank in our animal hospital lobby.
Dr. Wald received his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology from the University of Florida in 1980 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Originally from New York, South Florida’s tropical weather and his nearby family prompted Dr. Wald to relocate and open his own animal hospital here.
When not working, Dr. Wald prefers spending time outdoors enjoying athletic pursuits such as running, biking, and hiking, and always spending time with his family and pets.
